Disclaimer: This is my very first time reading this manga!

My thoughts: I must be frank, I was NOT an immediate fan of Lucy or Natsu in the beginning and ALMOST dismissed the series on two reasoning. A. They seemed to have type casted Lucy into this bimbo of a blonde who tries to use appeal and cringe worthy antics to get her way and for Natsu, just a dismissive lay about that just so happened to be a powerful wizard. HOWEVER, this all changed for me as I continued reading. I was impressed by Lucy's knowledge of the magic world aside from her celestial abilities (which perked my interests). I could see she did a fair amount of research and was in fact a bookworm which made me think and now believe (there is ALOT to this girl.) She proved herself determined to get into a decent guild and never did anything blind sided.

Natsu's ability took me by surprise, wasn't expecting such a large showdown from him in the very first book! (much like I'd be surprised if it didn't happen now) none the less, he earned my respect as an otaku with not only his display of strength but his tinder heart that he carries on his scarf.

For such dynamic characters, I don't fully appreciate how they were introduced but I can respect the room the made for strong character development in the future. If I had seen all the value in them both from the start, it would have left nothing to be desired from the series as a whole.

Volume one left me excited and hungry to see how their adventure will go.

My rating for volume 1: 3/5 Quills

Volume 2

I am convinced that I am in love with Erza Scarlet. The woman is AMAZING and so well written. I was very intrigued by what sort of backstory such a strong woman as herself may have. Her and Gray became my top two favorites just by their first appearances, despite my growing love for Natsu and Lucy, it is the Titania Fairy and Ice king that seem to click for me. I could tell that master Makarov was more powerful than he looked (he just had the eyes for it.) his character carried such and endless possibilities of outcomes.

As far as the guild itself. I am already a fan and wishing I were apart of their family because that is what they are. A guild of righteous hero's disguised as semi-naked, fire eating, iron throwing, beer drinking, key wielding, bottle throwing fairies. :)

Rating for volume 2: 4/5 Quills
