Verse of the Day: "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend." Proverbs 27:17

There's not much I can say about this book that doesn't include "beautifully written." If you are a fan of the Caravel series, The Night Circus or The Cruel Prince, I highly recommend this one! The first of The Inheritance Games, provides dark academia elements with tons of fantasy scenarios that surprisingly aren't actually magic. (no unicorns and fairies my darlings) Although I felt there should have been!

A well composed story will always earn high quills with me, and I would love to see what other works Mrs. Barnes has to offer. She produced a well executed mystery that reads like a movie!, I could see through her beautiful details and recall of past events, almost everything happening as it unfolds for our unlikely hero.

Some of my most favorite features of this whimsical and dark tale, is never really knowing who the real bad guys were. It left me anxious for our protagonists safety and really wonder of she would survive the house of Hawthorne. (of course where you have secrets, mansions, books and boys there will always be romance) so I appreciate the foreshadowing of future complications. I also enjoyed the thrill of solving a fascinating family mystery in a palace filled with secret paths, libraries with shelves that reached the sky and a family that was bred to be pawns on the world's largest chess board. The funny part being them not really knowing their part (you'll have to read it!)

There were moments I cried, moments I laughed, moments I was angry, and those where I breathed a sigh of relief while there were moments I could barely breathe. It took me 24 hours to get through this as a result of one hell of a ride. I have so many questions and that ENDING! wow! If you haven't already, go buy this book!

This is a book I give 15/10 quills, *Running to the bookstore to get the second and third*

Let's discuss! Have you read this series yet? How do you feel about it? Would you be willing to read more of Jennifer Lynn Barnes work? comment below and as always!...
