Verse of the Day:
Isaiah 26:3
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
When I said that we needed to embrace the parts of black history that are still being made, THIS is what I meant! Tonight, we witnessed history as Kendrick Lamar: Grammy award winning, best song, rap song, rap performance, record and music video artist, first rapper to ever be nominated for and win a Pulitzer prize (a highly prestigious award that's reserved for authors!), The official "Rap Thanos" (A title I've given him, myself) and currently the heart beat that revived Hip Hop, takes the stage at the 2025 Super Bowl half time show! (Along with the lovely Sza and iconic "Mustard") :) Sza's performance was absolutely beautiful! her energy, movement and vocals were so sultry and hyper feminine, I lived for her duet with Kendrick, they really have great stage and performance chemistry!

Kendrick is something, someone very special to the black community and I REALLY hope and pray that people come to love and respect him as an artist and a person who comes with messages of the truth, maybe not in the way people are comfortable with but, the truth nonetheless. As a creator, I've grown quite a bit of reverence for Kendrick Lamar, in many ways, he reminds me of my husband. There's a lot of wisdom behind his eyes, and although his smile is filled with warmth and sincerity, there's a quiet power to his existence. He's not the only celebrity I feel that way about it (more about that later) The black community is filled with Kendrick's, I've been a witness to them, I believe that now is the time, and the ground is ripe for all black creatives to really shine and what better time to start than Black History Month! :)
For my husband Isaiah, who is a musician, artist and all around rap/hip hop creator and patreon of the art, everything leading to this moment was very significant and special to him. I listened to hours of video reactions with him, and had to endure him using every conversation with friends and family to discuss the famous "Kendrick Lamar VS Drake" beef that ignited the internet and turned eyes onto the hip-hop/rap community. Isaiah is very passionate about music and it's been amusing to see him go on his deep dives and analysis concerning all this. Isaiah's knowledge about the history of music and hip hop is AMAZING to me. One of the things I've always admired about him is his ability to recall so many different periods of music and make connections between time lines all the way to now (and it's not just music, but anything else he's passionate about.) Do you see the the Kendrick??
But, I digress
Let's talk about this new and upcoming rap artist: Doechii!, you can't look at her and tell me that she doesn't remind you of a young Missy Elliot! not only does she have a gorgeous smile and phenomenal stage presence, she is definitely going to bring back the old charms of female rap and hip hop presence for the black community. Seeing her win her first Grammy was a MOMENT, not just for black aspiring women in the hip-hop/rap community but for the black women who are out there trying to make something happen for themselves, I was inspired by this years Grammys and I feel more than ready to continue my own personal pursuits in the creative world.
That's my spill! How are you all feeling? Do you think we're about to experience a new wave of black creative genius? Let's talk about it! and remember:
"For the love of life and the pursuit of the arts, stay prayerful and write on!"
