Verse of the Day: Isaiah 41:10
My Thoughts?
If ever a piece of literature that can paint a vivid picture and pull you into it's golden frame, it is "Black Girl in Paris". I'm sure by now it can be agreed upon that "Experience" is one of my most preferred choices of words and it's the perfect choice for the description of this master piece written by Shay Youngblood.
Through her rich and bold choice of words, there lingered behind each chapter a taste of wines, chocolates, exotic cheeses and golden croissants. Visions of Paris in twilight from windows that became one with the sky became my own in a place and time of writer verses politicians.
Eden isn't the typical main cast character who's rather hard to read if you try to skip a chapter, however, she is sincere and honest about her intentions which makes her not only easy to accept as a lead voice but endearing as she shares her adventure in living color. Through the eyes of a poet, I felt apart of Eden's voyage. I did not just read about the louvre, I was THERE, standing beside her observing work I wish'd I'd had done. I awoke beneath cotton sheets on that first morning in Paris and took the hands of Langston Hughs between my own before his travels. Together we shared that last cigerette at an open cafe where a message was left for us as it was for all writers and artists with purpose and became the poets we were always destined to be. For that Mrs. Shay, Thank you for the experience. :)
My score: Five out of Five Quills, will read again and again!
"For the love of life and literature, stay prayerful, stay positive and write on!"
