Verse of the day: rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Romans 12:12

Having characters that remind you of yourself helps build a profound intimacy of the stories in which they belong. Today I'd like to share with you my personal connection characters and how I relate to them!
1. Sarah Crew
It should come to no surprise to anyone that knows me, that Sarah is the first on this list. From a very young age, she displayed a lot of qualities that I too share. Her love for books and creating stories of her own, it was how I survived my youth. The passion she has for people in spite of their cruelty is my achilleas heel. The ways in which her elders disdained her and her peers regarded her reminded me of my school days in which although I was polite and kind towards my elders , I was always seen as a nuance, especially by elder women who were very comfortable with showing their disapproval of me and often referred to me as spoiled and called me "princess" as an insult very much like dear Sarah. However, it was her spirit, resilience and adaptability to her environment that truly began to mirror my life.. I too had adults who took advantage of my intelligence to make use of me for mature tasks or engage in conversation, I had adults who were supposed to care about me show me very little grace due to personal prejudice against my upbringing. I wasn't wealthy like Sarah but I lived a comfortable life and never had to worry about food, shelter, entertainment or clothes. For this I was hated and outcast by even members of my own family. Spiritual commitment prompted me to forgive them, and I have. Sarah reminded me of the part of me that will always seek to find the good in others and to forgive them just as God forgives me.
2. Eden Williams
I always believed my obsession with France was a phase in my teenage years, until I discovered the Parisian tale of "Black Girl in Paris", Eden's desire to travel to Paris to pursue her writing dreams made her a mirror to my own wishes travel abroad. There are not many black poets in fictional literature that I bonded with quite as much Eden, her misadventures, her small wins and woes made her creative journey all the more relatable. Doing small end jobs to make ends meet , being admired but doubted for choosing the arts over a 9-5, and most of all the never ending battle of choosing the life we make for ourselves vs that in which others live through us. Eden learned a great deal in her journey around Paris, and it was these lessons she would later have the time to sit and write about.
3. Xanthe Westlake
My love for vintage items and reverence for history make up the key components of my connection with Xanthe. The manners of which she dresses in authentic vintage attire and her eye for quality mirrors my own (although I do not own my dr. marten boots anymore, I wore them to the bone!) Xanthe happens to be an absolutely charming individual without really knowing it, with a heart for art as well.
4. Luna Lovegood
I belonged to the "never fit in, but somehow always needed" group in school. Luna's good intentions mixed with her soothing demeanor, kind nature and whimsical ideas make for one of the most beloved characters I've ever read. I see a lot of myself through Luna's ability to see beyond what's in front of her and being the voice of reason in the midst of chaos. (I also received my Pottermore results as Raven Claw!!!) With hair the color of snow and eyes as blue as angelite, Luna will always have my heart! :)
